The Golden Visa and regulated Portuguese funds, with one person on the ground to coordinate every step.

Why Portugal, why now

Last year, 68% of Portugal's electricity came from renewables. Its startups, laboratories and vineyards are exporting more than ever. We help international investors take part, through the Golden Visa and regulated funds, with someone accountable here.

The Golden Visa

Residency in Portugal. Five routes, none of them property.

Portugal's residence permit for investment lets non-EU nationals and their families live and work in Portugal and travel in Schengen, with minimal time in the country. We help you choose the route that fits, and coordinate it with your immigration lawyer.

Official requirements
Where the capital goes

The real economy. Not real estate.

Golden Visa funds must invest in Portuguese businesses, not property. Depending on the fund, that can mean sectors like these.

Our perspective

Eligibility is a filter. Not a thesis.

Qualifying for the Golden Visa doesn't make a fund a good investment. These are the questions we put to every manager, alongside your independent advisers.

  1. Manager

Who manages the capital, and what is their relevant track record?

  2. Strategy

Where is the return expected to come from?

  3. Alignment

How are the manager's and the investor's interests aligned?

  4. Structure

What are the fees, liquidity limits and terms?

  5. Underlying assets

What does the investor actually own exposure to?

  6. Risk

What could go wrong, and what could be lost?

One entry point into Portugal.

Questions investors ask.

What are the Golden Visa routes?

Five, based on the current AIMA requirements: investment funds (€500,000), arts and cultural heritage (€250,000), creating or capitalising a company with jobs (€500,000), scientific research (€500,000) and creating 10 jobs. Some amounts are reduced in low-density regions. Your immigration lawyer confirms which route fits your case.

How much time do I need to spend in Portugal?

At least 7 days in the first year, then 14 days in each following two-year period, based on the current AIMA requirements. The investment must be maintained for at least 5 years.

Does buying property still qualify for the Golden Visa?

No. Based on the current AIMA requirements, real estate purchases no longer qualify. Qualifying routes include at least €500,000 in eligible non-real-estate funds constituted under Portuguese law. You can still buy a home separately, and we can help with that.

Does the Golden Visa lead to citizenship?

It can lead to permanent residence and, later, citizenship under the Nationality Law. The residence period required for citizenship changed in 2026, so your immigration lawyer should confirm the current rules and how they apply to you.

Does HillForte manage funds or give investment advice?

No. Our role is introductions and local coordination. Investment, legal and tax advice comes from independently appointed professionals holding the required authorisations. Any commercial relationship with a manager is disclosed before an introduction.

Can my family be included?

Eligible family members may apply under the family reunification rules. Your immigration lawyer confirms who can be included.

Do you work with advisers and family offices?

Yes. We act as a local point of coordination while you keep the client relationship.

Can you help with property and relocation too?

Yes. Many clients combine an investment with a home or a move. We coordinate property search, relocation and private office support as separate services.
